Braided Leather Dog Collars

Wonderful Braided Leather Dog Collars

The leather braided dog collar is a great collar for dogs of any breed or size. They are classically fashionable for todays dog. The leather braided dog collar is one of the most durable dog collars around. It can withstand the toughest conditions without breaking. Although it is not completely waterproof, this collar is the one to get.

Large Dogs

Large dogs do very well with braided leather dog collars. With dogs that easily break normal nylon collars, you need to try these. Leather is extremely strong and there are very few dogs that can break a leather collar. If you have a large dog that can break a regular leather collar, rest assured that a braided leather collar is even stronger than a plain leather collar.

Sizes

Leather collars tend to loosen and relax with wear, so make sure you get a collar that will work with your dog if it loosens. Leather collars are made in small, medium, large, and extra large. These sizes usually accommodate any breed. It is much better to get the collar a bit big and adjust it with the proper clasp hole than to get one that is too tight. A leather collar that is too tight can be a choking hazard to your dog or cause neck and windpipe damage.

Comfortable

Braided leather collars are very comfortable for dogs to wear. They feel soft and smooth against the skin. Long hair breeds may have problems getting their hair twisted into the woven leather. The tighter the braid, the less likely this is to occur. So, take this into consideration when purchasing one of these collars.

Care Of Leather Collars

Leather dog collars should be cared for properly to ensure the quality of the collar and the comfort to the dog. Leather does not do well in wet conditions, so when it does get wet, care for it immediately. Most collars are water repellant, but if very saturated, they will retain water. Remove the collar from the dog; wipe any dirt or debris from it, and lay it flat to dry. Make sure the drying area is not warm but room temperature. Saddle soap is a good product to have for taking care of your leather collars. It renews the oils that protect the leather and keep it soft and beautiful.

Disadvantages

Some leather collars have the capability of changing your dogs hair color. Some of the dyes in leather collars will rub off onto your dogs fur around the area in which the collar stays. This is not usually a problem for darker colored dogs. Owners of white dogs may take this into consideration when purchasing a leather dog collar.

Braided leather collars are great for any size and breed of dog. They are durable and safe to use even with unattended dogs. They will not break easily when used with large breeds and cannot be chewed off quickly. Although they cost a bit more than nylon collars, their advantages are much greater.
